Price€21,75
Created in 2013 at the dawn of the vermouth renaissance, La Quintinye Vermouth Royal is the only vermouth made with Pineau des Charentes and infusions of 37 plants including, of course, mugwort.
Its name comes from the famous agronomist Jean-Baptiste de la Quintinye born in 1626 in Chabanais, asked by Louis XIV's gardener, Le Nôtre, to create the Sun King's botanical garden.
La Quintinye transports us to Versailles in a universe where the joy of life and opulence reign.
Now, at a time when retro-chic and classic cocktails are in fashion, La Quintinye Vermouth Royal was awarded in 2016 as the best French vermouth in the world by Paul Pacult's Ultimate Spirits Challenge.
For the Extra Dry version, 27 different herbs and spices are used, as well as a selection of white wines and Pineau des Charentes Blanc, to create a very round vermouth. Very bold and striking, it stands out in cocktails with a lot of complexity.
Nose : Chopped basil and sage, with a sprig of rosemary after a few moments. Notes of fig and light citrus. A little licorice emerges after a minute.
Mouth : Opens with lemon zest and green grapes, then quickly dives into the vegetal notes of absinthe, sage and rosemary.
Finish : Pleasantly bitter and dry with fresh herbs.
